Hallmarking
What does Hallmarking actually mean?
Hallmarking is a legal requirement to assure the quality of precious metals for customer protection. There are a number of assay offices across the UK which offer testing and hallmarking. I use Sheffield - of course!
Not every piece of precious metal needs to be hallmarked. Its depends on the weight of that metal (in the case of silver it's 7.78g). So, this means that generally only the jewellery that is over the required weight is hallmarked. All jewellery I make is weight checked to make sure hallmarking is arranged if required. Retailers are legally obliged to display the dealers notice (see image) explaining about hallmarking. If you're interested to find out more search https://www.assayoffice.co.uk
